faut jamais me dire "oui, tu peux le faire ici", dans cinq minutes j'avais ramassé tous les affaires pour sculpter et 'yella'..... allez. Grâce à ma famille il est possible de sculpter. Je les remercie pour le matériel que je peux utiliser, pour m'avoir assisté à faire des trous à la main, pour les petits cafés et les repas et surtout pour le fait qu'ils me donnent les coudées franches pour travailler. De temps en temps j'y vais pour continuer travailler à la sculpture.

je moet nooit, nooit tegen me zeggen "ja, natuurlijk mag je dat hier doen", want binnen vijf minuten had ik al het benodigde gereedschap bij elkaar en 'yella'.......gaan. Dankzij mijn familie is het mogelijk om te beeldhouwen. Ik bedank mijn familie voor het lenen van het gereedschap, voor het assisteren bij het boren van de gaten (met de hand), voor de koffie en de maaltijden et vooral voor het feit dat ze me alle ruimte geven om te werken. Als ik tijd heb ga ik ernaar toe om verder aan het beeld te werken.

Tout ce qui pouvait être cassé à cette sculpture est cassé. Des parties entières y sont cassées. Par conséquence, je casserai volonairement, la partie, dont on peut supposer que c'est une tête, de sorte que l'harmonie soit rétablie. Mon dieu, la folie avait pris possession de moi en faisant cette partie rassemlant une tête avec deus oreilles. Je conseille de couvrir cette partie avec la main pour voir ce que je veux dire. Mais, malgré les changements inattendus je reste une avec ma pièce de bois. Je dirais que j'aime mes mains.

Alles wat fout kon gaan is fout gegaan. Hele stukken zijn afgebroken. Het deel, waarvan men kan veronderstellen dat het een hoofd met oren is, zal ik vrijwillig eraf zagen, zodat de harmonie zich weer herstelt in het geheel. Mon dieu, wat bezielde me om het deel dat op een hoofd met twee oren lijkt te maken. Ik kan aanraden dat deel met de hand te bedekken om te zien wat ik bedoel. Maar, toch blijf ik één met de vormen van 'mijn' hout; ideeen passen zich als vanzelf aan.......je zou bijna van je eigen handen gaan houden.

robert, het beeld wordt wel wat, goed is om er verplicht afstand van te moeten nemen, terwijl de vorm en de idee of de ideeen in mijn achterhoofd aan het werk zijn. Maar om eerlijk te zijn ik kan eigenlijk niet wachten om verder te gaan. Het beeldhouwen is zoveel vrijer en natuurlijker dan tekenen of schilderen

mijn reactie: daar ben ik niet mee eens. want, ook tekenen en schilderen is het verbeelden of uitbeelden van datgene wat je uit jezejf naar buiten wilt uitdragen. In dit opzicht is er geen verschil tussen beide kunstdisciplines en dus allebei even natuurlijk. Het enige verschil zit 'm in de innerlijke wens: de werkelijke tastbaarheid van het resultaat. De is bij een beeldhouwer sterker.

Ruud, het citaat zijn mijn woorden. Natuurlijk beelden beide disciplines uit wat de maker uit wil dragen. Echter, ervaar ikzelf het beeldhouwen als vrijer, omdat het physieker is en mijn beeld over de vorm nog niet vast ligt. Bij het beeldhouwen heb ik een andere, lossere stijl van werken, waarbij ik echt los kan gaan. Daarbij doe ik het buiten, wat een extra vrije dimensie geeft.
Het is geen kwestie van keuze, in beide kan ik veel van mezelf kwijt.

*kijk met een glimlach naar mijn handen*, maar zie ook nog steeds 'het hoofd', de storende factor aan het beeld, het laat me niet los. Een opinel is helaas niet het juiste gereedschap.
Grappig dat je een beeld vormt van iemand aan de hand van korte impressies in beeld en woord. Je maakt me nieuwsgierig naar het beeld dat je hebt gevormd.

Poeh he, daar vraag je me iets. Het zijn allemaal flitsjes die ik niet kan verwoorden eigenlijk. Maar zeker is dat je overkomt als een bevlogen, geestdriftige kunstenares met de hoognodige alternativiteit/ excentriciteit/ eigenzinnigheid...Maar ja, t.a.v. het laatste baseer ik mij op je kleding! Zelf heb ik altijd maar woorden nodig om beelden te vormen...Gewoon een beeld is voor mij te weinig, maar komt ook omdat ik het te veelomvattend vind, ik zou daar echt beter mee om willen leren gaan...Vol overgave beelden in mij in laten werken....Hmmmm..klinkt goed. Tijdrover, met je verbeeldingskracht is niets mis ;-) Knap dat je me zo weet neer te zetten adv enkele beelden en korte teksten. Maar dit zegt natuurlijk nog niet veel.
Ben zelf benieuwd of de kennis van alle ins en outs van verf die ik bij de cursus ga opdoen mijn werken zal veranderen, ook al roep ik nog zo hard dat het niets zal afdoen aan mijn eigenheid.

Het is maar verbeeldingskracht, Caro! Een paar schootjes voor de boeg. Maar ik ben het met je eens: elke karaktertrek ziet er bij een ieder weer anders uit...Dus zelfs als je de juiste karaktertrekken te pakken hebt, ben je nog niet thuis. Hallo Caro, wat een prachtig beeld, wat voor hout gebruik je daarvoor?
Ik vind de vormen mooi en vloeiend en organisch, daar houd ik van.
Ik heb zelf nog nooit met hout gewerkt, voorlopig alleen met steen.
Het neemt wel veel meer tijd maar ruimtelijk werk is heerlijk om te doen.

DEEP-SPACE TRAVEL If the launching of LightSail-1 goes off according to plan next year, humans may soon be solar-sailing, as shown in this illustration.

About a year from now, if all goes well, a box about the size of a loaf of bread will pop out of a rocket some 500 miles above the Earth. There in the vacuum it will unfurl four triangular sails as shiny as moonlight and only barely more substantial. Then it will slowly rise on a sunbeam and move across the stars.

LightSail-1, as it is dubbed, will not make it to Neverland. At best the device will sail a few hours and gain a few miles in altitude. But those hours will mark a milestone for a dream that is almost as old as the rocket age itself, and as romantic: to navigate the cosmos on winds of starlight the way sailors for thousands of years have navigated the ocean on the winds of the Earth.

“Sailing on light is the only technology that can someday take us to the stars,” said Louis Friedman, director of the Planetary Society, the worldwide organization of space enthusiasts.

Even as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration continues to flounder in a search for its future, Dr. Friedman announced Monday that the Planetary Society, with help from an anonymous donor, would be taking baby steps toward a future worthy of science fiction. Over the next three years, the society will build and fly a series of solar-sail spacecraft dubbed LightSails, first in orbit around the Earth and eventually into deeper space.

The voyages are an outgrowth of a long collaboration between the society and Cosmos Studios of Ithaca, N.Y., headed by Ann Druyan, a film producer and widow of the late astronomer and author Carl Sagan.

Sagan was a founder of the Planetary Society, in 1980, with Dr. Friedman and Bruce Murray, then director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The announcement was made at the Hart Senate Office Building in Washington at a celebration of what would have been Sagan’s 75th birthday. He died in 1996.

Ms. Druyan, who has been chief fund-raiser for the society’s sailing projects, called the space sail “a Taj Mahal” for Sagan, who loved the notion and had embraced it as a symbol for the wise use of technology.

There is a long line of visionaries, stretching back to the Russian rocket pioneers Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and Fridrich Tsander and the author Arthur C. Clarke, who have supported this idea. “Sails are just a marvelous way of getting around the universe,” said Freeman Dyson, of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J., and a longtime student of the future, “but it takes a long time to imagine them becoming practical.”

The solar sail receives its driving force from the simple fact that light carries not just energy but also momentum — a story told by every comet tail, which consists of dust blown by sunlight from a comet’s core. The force on a solar sail is gentle, if not feeble, but unlike a rocket, which fires for a few minutes at most, it is constant. Over days and years a big enough sail, say a mile on a side, could reach speeds of hundreds of thousands of miles an hour, fast enough to traverse the solar system in 5 years. Riding the beam from a powerful laser, a sail could even make the journey to another star system in 100 years, that is to say, a human lifespan.

Whether humans could ever take these trips depends on just how starry-eyed one’s view of the future is.

Dr. Friedman said it would take too long and involve too much exposure to radiation to sail humans to a place like Mars. He said the only passengers on an interstellar voyage — even after 200 years of additional technological development — were likely to be robots or perhaps our genomes encoded on a chip, a consequence of the need to keep the craft light, like a giant cosmic kite.

In principle, a solar sail can do anything a regular sail can do, like tacking. Unlike other spacecraft, it can act as an antigravity machine, using solar pressure to balance the Sun’s gravity and thus hover anyplace in space.

And, of course, it does not have to carry tons of rocket fuel. As the writer and folk singer Jonathan Eberhart wrote in his song “A Solar Privateer”:
